Niku Singh

Born in Nairobi, Kenya's cosmopolitan capital city, Niku hails from a creative and encouraging family of creative people. Despite his childhood dream to become an architect or pilot, Niku studied interior design, whilst helping to run the family's engineering business.
The combination of both an engineering and artistic background, and his great attention to detail, made Niku the ideal person to create and manufacture a variety of beautiful aluminium and brass beads for the Kenyan company Kitengela Glass. During this project, Niku was introduced to Made founder, Cristina Cisilino, as well as one of the company's key collaborative designers, Pippa Small.

Niku's collection proved extremely popular with Made, and a partnership between the two parties began with Cristina suggesting he design his own range of jewellery for the company. A lifelong skill for seeing the creative potential in items that others would simply throw away, and recycling them into something stunning, is evident in Niku's collection. He draws inspiration from anything and everything – a single bead or even a piece of furniture – resulting in an eclectic mix of different materials and styles.
Alongside his design work for Made, Niku also makes a range of interior accessories such as mirrors and lampshades, whilst continuing to assist with the family business and interior design.
Niku is incredibly passionate about Made's cause, and is a great supporter of their "trade not aid" ethos.
"It's not just changed my life, but touched many others connected to it in different ways".
