aman - head of production

Aman is from the Luo tribe, near Lake Victoria. Having tried and failed to relocate to Nairobi Aman ended up living in Kibera, the largest inner-city slum in Africa, possibly the world.

Despite Kibera's lack of sanitation, electricity and drinking water, plus its high rate of HIV/AIDS and Malaria, Aman managed to succeed in the face of adversity. By using recycled materials (including hand-turned cow bone from cattle carcasses used for food), Aman and his team created a small business producing wood carvings, metalwork and beads.

When we first met Aman he employed just four co-workers. Now, as Head of Production for made Kenya Ltd, he is an integral part of the company and oversees 30 made workers.
